Georgia Takes the Lead in US Electric Vehicle Market

When governments, companies, nonprofits, and individuals collaborate to support a green business, the results can surpass all expectations. Georgia has overtaken all other US markets in adopting electric vehicle technology. There are lessons to be learned for other sustainable businesses from the success of the state.
In 2011, if someone wished to buy a zero-tailpipe-emission vehicle in Georgia, they had to go to other states to purchase it. There was zero market for these sustainable vehicles in the state of Georgia. Four years down the road, Georgia has become the largest market for electric vehicles in the US, leaving California behind at the second place.
In 2014, the sales of electric vehicles jumped more than seven-fold in the southeastern state. According to data firm Statista, electric cars in the state account for one of every 60 new cars sold, which is higher than the second-largest market, California, where the figure was one in 70. More than 15,000 drivers in Georgia currently use electric vehicles. The charging network ChargePoint says that Atlanta has become the fastest-growing US market for electric vehicles.
